Bertrand Russell In this collection of essays, Russell surveys the social and political consequences of his beliefs with characteristic clarity and humour. Texting harks Bertrand Russell8 wrote a marvellous essay on this subject, titled 'In Praise of Idleness' (also the title of the collection in which the essay is most readily found). In 1932 Bertrand Russell wrote an essay titled “In Praise of Idleness” in which he said that the work-hours per week should be dramatically reduced. I find it interesting for other reasons. It ties in to many recent thread topics like semi-ERE, 1%, objections to ERE, and a few others. I really liked the main essay, particularly the pin factory example that illustrates the problems with the labor market when people are too willing to work long hours. On the other hand, if used in moderation, texting might help demolish the weird and unmannerly etiquette of the mobile phone, in which, for no reason but the technology's existence, it is the recipient of the call who is somehow required to make an excuse if not free to answer.
